Any home with toddlers needs a “toolbox” of tricks and tips to get and stay healthy. You never know what might work or when you’ll need a new parenting idea. When I hear what works for other parents… it goes in the “toolbox” for possible later use (lol). These are some tips that have worked for us.
In this house when life gives you boogers, make tea! (teehee) ;-)
We LOVE to drink herbal tea for all sorts of afflictions. Mother nature has an herbal treatment for “almost” any common ailment. This year I grew a whole host of herbs in the garden but I am not yet savvy enough to start concocting my own tea. WEEELLLLL…. I make “tea” for the garden as an organic way to keep pests off my plants but to drink it, now I haven’t gotten brave enough just yet. I leave the creation of herbal teas for human consumption to the experts such as Traditional Medicinals (Organic) and Yogi (Organic) our two favorite brands.
Drew has been drinking tea since he had colic as an infant. Obviously with anything you give your children (herbal or not) it is best to check with their pediatrician, which I always do. The tea below is simply a tip for those that do not know teas exist for children so you can check them out on your own. The “just for kids category” uses herbs in child size amounts…. I spilt it with Drew’s favorite juice to enhance the likelihood that he will drink the majority of it. I also have been known to freeze it in ice pops… got some chillin’ now!
When it comes to herbal teas I ALWAYS buy organic just as a rule of thumb. This is how one of my acupuncturists (whom also has her herbal certification) put it, “When you make tea you are pulling as much of the condensed components out of the herbs as possible to drink them… you want it to be as pure as possible.” That logic makes perfect sense to me… organic it is!
This will be our “juice” for the next few days ;-)
Bottoms up!
Traditional Medicinals sells about 4 different teas for kids from the "Cold Care" seen above to "Nighty Night" comfort tea. If you want to check them out go to...

As for Drew’s Momma who gets the privilege of sharing all of his colds, I will be drinking these.
Note: the Throat Coat for kids is great too… Traditional Medicinals does not make an Echinacea for kids. Drew’s pediatrician once told me that it is not recommended for kids to take herbal remedies that mess with immune systems (such as Echinacea) because a child immune system is still developing. There may be additional reasons behind this but this is what I was told. For Drew I stick with the teas that are designed for kiddo consumption.
